In a bid to increase access of the rural poor to health services (both curative and preventive) so as to reduce the high morbidity and mortality levels, EDF runs an elaborate community health programme which uses the Community Based Health Care Approach (CBHC)

The main focus of the programme is to impart knowledge and skills (nutrition, environmental sanitation, home management, etc) to enable communities effectively manage and control preventable diseases.

The major activities under the programme include; mobilizing communities for better health conditions (through adoption of low-cost health care approaches), training and equipping of Community Health Workers as well as formation and training of Village Health Teams.
